Blue Ocean Restaurant: "My Valentine's Day Saga"

Woody Allen once said, "I will not eat oysters. I want my food dead - not sick, not wounded - dead". Well, I hate to disagree with a creepy old man who married his own step daughter (nevertheless an inspiring writer - mad respect, brother) - but seafood does taste better raw, better yet, moving.

My love for seafood, not just sushi, but any seafood began at an early age. My family made frequent trips by the seashore during summer Prawn season to get them at its peak. We would stop by one of the little trucks on the side of the road with a tank fulll of gigantic prawns to get 2 or 3 pounds of them for lunch. These prawns were as big as my hand and we would grill them with sea salt, which made the best lunch 30 dollar can buy. But I always ended up getting yelled at because I would eat them raw before they even made it to the grill. It is one of the fondest memories I have of seafood. So yes, I still prefer eating my shrimp raw - but unfortunately now I have to resort to going to sushi bars like Blue Ocean in Fairfax, not by the sea like the good old days..

To cut to the point of this blog: I revisited Blue Ocean Restaurant, which happens to be my favorite sushi restaurant to celebrate (or to acknowledge) one of the worst commercial holidays of all times - Valentine's day. After being with someone for more than 4 years, dusty bears with "be mine" signs and 10 year old candy in hot pink wrappers no longer get me excited. But I do take advantage of all the hype from this holiday by going out to do something I typically wouldn't (or can't afford to) do, like eating 9 course Japanese meal at Blue Ocean Restaurant. Without further ado, here are the pictures -
